The One-Liner ad created by Carl Ally, Inc. 1966

In our digital age it’s refreshing to look back and see one simple line that says it all. Ed McCabe wrote these lines and true to the theory that less is more, the fewer the words, the more difficult the task. Art director Ron Barrett developed the visuals that did the job of telling much of the story. This compelling campaign for Horn and Hardart, a New York automat chain, offered low budget eating but the advertising never claimed anything else.

The advertising lasted far longer in memory than automat restaurants, which succumbed to the fast food format.
